Meet Cathal. He is part of our Investor Services management team where he assists in developing an effective investor communications strategy. His responsibilities include building and maintaining strong investor relationships with investors and performing financial analysis.
Q&A WITH CATHAL O'LEARY
How would you describe your job to a fifth grader?
"The Investor Services team of a Fund Administrator acts as the link between Fund Managers and their Investors. We ensure that all the necessary paperwork and checks are carried out on investors before they invest in a Fund. We are also responsible for processing investor subscription and redemption requests. We would also be responsible for providing Fund Managers and Investors with their monthly reports which show the value of the investment. As an Assistant Manager my role is to review all subscription & redemption requests, monthly statements and investor payments and ensure they are processed correctly and to assist my colleagues with any queries they may have."
What advice would you give to someone starting their career in fund administration?
"My advice would be to be proactive and eager to work. From the graduates who have joined Centaur after me I’ve found that those who have been proactive in getting themselves work when things are quiet have progressed a lot quicker. An example of this is just asking your colleagues if they need a hand with anything through the day. If someone has a task for you it’s a great opportunity to test out what you’ve learned or to learn a new process. I would always encourage new graduates/Starters to ask questions…there is no such thing as a silly question. And finally its always handy to have a notebook and pen to take notes when learning new processes.. trust me it looks easy but you’ll always forget one step."
What led you to Centaur?
"As part of my College degree I did a one year work placement. My internship was with State Street, this gave me my first look at Fund Admin and Investor services work. Once I finished college I was on the look out for IS roles/Grad programs in Fund Administrators. I saw on LinkedIn that another Maynooth Graduate had just start working for Centaur Fund Services, I then did some research on the company and applied for a role."
What is your favourite movie of all time?
"The Wolf of Wall Street"
What's one thing that's on your bucket list?
"Go to the F1 Monaco Grand Prix"
Any new adventures/interests since the pandemic began?
"I have recently gotten a Cocker Spaniel Puppy- so he takes up most of my non-working time!"
What's something most people don't know about you?
"I am an avid LEGO builder!"
