Centaur’s US clients have three priorities when dealing with fund administrators:  Precision, regulatory expertise and an integrated service.

Since our launch in 2010 and, in particular since the opening of a new US Headquarters in New York, Centaur has built a detailed view of the Fund Administration Industry through the eyes of US Fund Managers. In conversations, three points remained on the top of the priority list for Managers seeking a fund administrator:

US Managers and investors demand quality and complete transparency.  Small details matter and they set high standards for themselves and their service providers.
Traditionally, there was a trend for new funds to appoint an administrator on a price-only basis. These administrators deploy a “low touch” model with technology that cannot withstand serious investor scrutiny. As funds grow in size they engage with larger institutional investors. At this important step, managers are having to upgrade their administration firm. Now, we see a shift in the market as managers create collaborative partnerships with higher quality, more credible fund administrators who demonstrate a long term commitment and deliver excellent client service in an accountable and transparent fashion.

Integrated Service Offering
It’s no longer just about the NAV. Managers are seeking collaborative administrators that are more than a processing shop. It’s less about size and more about knowledge. For example, US audits drive tax and other regulatory reporting so the accuracy of financial statements produced by administrators is vital. US auditors often comment that having financial statements produced by remote groups who are not involved in the day-to-day servicing of the account result in a marked deterioration in financial statements produced by many administrators.
